Firstly, what is a Cookie? It’s a small file (not a programme) that says you visited the site. Some are essential to the running of the website and some help us to improve the website. In general they will make your experience viewing this site better.

The latter type of Cookie is because we use the Google Analytics service to make this website better for you the reader. This service uses cookies to gain some simple information about your visit that allows us to develop this website. The information we get shows the web editor the number of people who use the page, if they’ve visited the page before and what browser and vague operating system they use (Is it a Windows PC, Apple Mac or Linux). To clarify, this information is not detailed and no one person can be identified or separated because of it.

Most people are happy with this and the use of these cookies is not uncommon. By using this site and dismissing the warning at the top of the page, we’ll presume you’re OK with cookies. However, if you’re not (and it is your right) then you can opt out of all Google Analytics cookies here.

More information about Cookies can be found on Wikipedia’s article here or on the BBC WebWise site here. For Google Analytic’s privacy policy, then that can be found here. To find out how to remove cookies from your browser, see the About Cookies website.
