This year, the entire Scouting movement is celebrating 100 years of Cub Scouts.
We’re no exception. Stand by for the wildest birthday ever!
This year we’ve got Birthday camps to celebrate this excellent anniversary, parties galore and of course an exciting programme that doesn’t hold back on the adventure.
To get an idea of what is happening nationally, check out the Cubs 100 website. But on a more local level, here is our A-Z of what Cubs 100 looks like for us!
A – Adventure all the way, no more so than at this July’s Summer Camp!
B – Birthday cake, here’s one from our own centenary camp in April!
C – CubJam. Our Cubs are visiting the UK home of scouting at Gilwell Park in June for the national Cub jamboree – a chance to meet other cubs from across the UK along with 6 days of epic fun and entertainment.
D – Discovery Cub Pack, both packs will discover more about Cubs in years gone by…
E – Endeavour Cub Pack … and will endeavour to always do our best!
F – Flags because our flags will join those from other Cub packs across Hampshire in a grand parade through Winchester, the ancient capitol of Wessex, to the Cathedral in May.
G – Games because our founder Baden-Powell described scouting as a game played outdoors and that tradition lives on!
H – Hiking which is much more fun that it might sound.
I – Incredible days out all across the year from the excitement of theme parks to ancient castles!
J – Joining In so everyone can take part in the wildest year ever.
K – Kind and caring because Cubs will also be helping others this year.
L – Linking up with other Cub packs all over the country.
M – Memories of the sort that can never be forgotten!
N – No one left out of the fun, the adventure and of our best year ever.
O – Olympics, not just in Brazil this summer but also in Totton as we hold our very own Cub Olympics.
P – Promise as we renew our promise with thousands of other Cubs across the UK and around the world on the 100th anniversary, 16th December at 19:16 hours.
Q – Quiet, well a Cub has got to sleep some time!
R – Razorball party, bound to be a scream.
S – Santas running in the streets in December – more here.
T – Tents, surely a Cub Scout’s home from home.
U – Uniform, worn with pride and adorned with our anniversary badge – designed by a Cub scout. (Badge not to scale!)
V – Valour, the greatest trait of a knight and one that will be seen in buckets at our Medieval Parent and Child camp this summer.
W – Welcome to all who want to join this spectacular year of adventure, boy or girl (you can do so here).
X – Because X marks the spot when you’re orienteering!
Y – Y? Because we love it so much!
Z – Zebra, because no pack is complete without a Zany Zebra – ours is called Phyllis.
