Biggest ever Donkey Derby a huge success

A huge thank you on behalf of both the 5th Testwood Scouts and the 4th Eling Sea Scouts to all who came along to this year’s Donkey Derby. It was our biggest ever event with an area double the size, new activities and games to try and more than 2,000 of you came along to experience it.

With stalls, trains, climbing, nerf wars and games alongside the traditional donkey races, there was plenty for everyone to do in the unexpectedly beautiful weather. Thanks to your support, the event raised £11,700 to be split between the two groups.

Both groups are registered charities and reply on public support and contributions from our parents/carers to be able to bring the skills for life to our young people. The money raised helps keep our adventures and activities affordable, so the young people who need them most can benefit from them. It allows us to maintain our buildings, both of which are used for other community groups, both now and for the future and improve them. It pays for equipment and covers the ever-rising costs of a modern group including energy bills and insurance.

You can find some pictures from the event below and the coverage of the event on the Southern Daily Echo, Lymington Times and on BBC Radio Solent (2.21.55).

Catch both Scout groups together at next year’s Donkey Derby on Saturday 17th May 2025. Plus you can sponsor the 4th Eling Sea Scouts for their 24 hour paddle in a month’s time or join in with 5th Testwood’s Totton Santa Run in December.
