The Group’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place on Tuesday 20th June at our HQ. We were joined by parents, leaders and scouts from all sections to hear about what we have achieved over the past year. This is one of the reports presented that night:
This year has again been a very busy year for the group with all sections taking part in many of the district and county events and competitions, so many in fact that once again the group have retained the coveted District Commissioner’s Participation Trophy. I could write pages on the subject, but I am sure that the other leaders will want to tell you all about them in their own section reports.
After a break of a couple of years, this May saw all sections attend our Group Camp for three days of pirate themed fun. I think that all of the young people who came along had a great time, enjoying a range of activities, many of them for the first time. Despite the forecast, weather was reasonably kind to us for the weekend, but we did have lots of tents to put out to dry on the Monday evening.
The annual census for this year once again shows growth over the whole group, with youth membership up to 86 and growing steadily which is fantastic news for the Group, we must be doing something special as we have also several new Leaders join us in the past year. The Beaver section particularly has seen so many new members that since the last AGM they have opened a second Colony on Tuesday evenings.
I’m sure you will all join me in saying a big thank you to all of leaders who have once again put in a great deal of hard work and freely given up a lot of their time to provide quality Scouting for all your children this past year. And also to all of the officers and members of the group executive committee without whose hard work and support the group would not be able to run.
On the subject of the Executive Committee, Tracy our Group Chairman decided to stand down just after Christmas and although she is still very much involved in fundraising for the Group, I would like to thank her for all that she achieved through her hard work and all the support that she gave me during her time as Chairman.
We are also looking for a new Treasurer as Liz Deacon will not be looking for re-election this year after six years of looking after our books, I am sure all the section Leaders are grateful for all of the help she has given us over the years and will miss her at the executive meetings.
A Scout Group cannot function without an Executive Committee; it is not an extra job that the Leaders can take on, nor should it be. If you feel you would be able take a position on our committee or even join us as a Leader, please don’t be shy, come and speak to me.
Yours in Scouting, Barry
