AGM 2018: Santa Run report

Santa Run 2017

Wet, wet, wet, but undeterred Gala tents were pitched in the War Memorial car park and start and finish lines erected ready for the Santas who braved the wind and rain to run in our 2nd Santa Run. We sold 323 spaces for the run – more than the previous year’s 269. It’s uncertain how many ran on the day, but it’s believed we had near 300 Santas on the day.

This year’s run also saw some firsts as we were joined by real reindeer and Ocean Harmony Chorus. We also ran a fancy dress competition for dogs and a buggy and wheelchair competition. Lastly the first ever ‘Totton Cake Off’ took place with entries in both the adult and children’s categories.

Unfortunately the weather did put off most of our external stall holders, a few did make it out only to pack up early for fear of losing stock. The group’s stalls did remain, at least those stalls not blown away by the wind, which was the sad fate of the Beaver stall. The weather also meant that the fayre was not visited by the community as social media had indicated it might. Totton Santa Run made over £2000 for the group.

Looking ahead to 2018’s run.

This year we have been working hard on making some changes that we hope will make this now annual event even more popular with the wider community.

Firstly we are in the process of applying for new route road closures which will see the run take the form of a loop this we hope will make participation easier with the start and finish in the same place.

We have moved our finish line fayre indoors to the Empire Hall meaning whatever the weather we will have on offer a dry day out for the community. We again will be joined by reindeer and Ocean Harmony Chorus and have already received bookings for stalls. We hope to bring back all the competitions including the ‘The Great Totton Cake Off’. This year we are also doing the catering selling food and drink which will help our fundraising soar.

We need your help to make this happen:

  • Corporate sponsorship. Do you own or work for a business that can help?
  • Charity match funding. Do you work for a company who match fundraising? Can you arrange this for us?
  • Talking about and sharing the event with friends and family.
  • Helping on the day including running stalls, setting up and marshaling.
  • Help us obtain raffle prizes, leaflet drop and more.
